Get ready for a dazzling new production of Guys and Dolls at the Gordon Craig Theatre in Stevenage from Monday 16th August - Saturday 21st August.

The endearing all-singing, all-dancing musical based on the music and lyrics by Frank Loesser is a timeless story of boy meets girls and follows a group of small-time gamblers and the ladies in their lives.

Nathan Detroit (Andrew Hodson) needs money to set up a small dice game and fast. Knowing his friend Sky Masterson (Bradley Clarkson) can afford to give him the money, but will never just lend it to him, Nathan bets Sky that he cannot make the first woman he sees fall in love with him. So when the next lady that walks by happens to be a prim and proper neighbourhood missionary called Sarah Brown (Elizabeth Pruett), Sky has his work cut out for him. Add to this the persistence of Nathan’s girlfriend, Miss Adelaide (Nerys Martin - who is no stranger to the Gordon Craig Theatre, having been in a number of productions including Footloose and Beauty and the Beast), who is desperate for a ring on her finger, and you get a hugely entertaining series of events unfolding before your eyes.

Directed by Tracy Collier (Seven Brides for Seven Brothers) and choreographed by Drew Varley (Cats), both of whom were involved with last year’s summer musical of ‘Footloose’ at the Gordon Craig, this production is bound to be a hit with all lovers of musical theatre. Not only will you be treated to energetic dance routines and classic hits such as ‘Luck be a Lady’ and ‘Sit Down You’re Rocking the Boat’, but you’ll also be dazzled by fabulous costumes and a fantastic set.

‘Guys and Dolls’ was first produced on Broadway at the 46th Street Theatre. It opened on November 24th 1950 and ran for 1,201 performances, winning five Tony Awards in 1951, including the award for Best Musical. Based on Damon Runyon's famous 1940s short stories, the musical has been a huge hit on stage and was made as a film in 1955 starring Marlon Brando, Frank Sinatra and Jean Simmons.

The West End premiere of the musical opened at the London Coliseum on May 28th, 1953 and ran for 555 performances. It has since been staged at the Piccadilly Theatre in London’s West End, where it ran for 789 performances, a record for the theatre. It also won the 2006 Olivier Award for Outstanding Musical Production.
