Education Courses

Creative Writing

The Gordon Craig runs a variety of courses for all ages in association with the North Hertfordshire College. Among our most popular courses are Creative Writing for All, Wood Turning for All and Life Drawing, with a number of new additions to the programme being added this year. Places sell out quickly so in order to reserve your place call North Hertfordshire College on 01462 424239 . For more information on courses, please call the Education Department 01438 242761.

Leisure 50’s

Leisure 50’s is a programme of activities for people over the age of 50. The classes that include Drawing and Painting and Calligraphy take place weekly throughout the year and are designed for people of all abilities and backgrounds. Payment for all courses is accepted at the Box Office on the day of each class.

The Gordon Craig Youth Theatre

The long established Youth Theatre at the Gordon Craig provides an environment where children and young people are free to express themselves, learn about the art of performance and have lots of fun along the way! Age groups range from 3-4 year olds through to over 14s, packed with warm up games and improvisation scenarios with each class having its own topic of focus for the term.

The Youth Theatre is open to all and does not audition. Talent is embraced at every opportunity but it’s the taking part that counts and the Youth Theatre is much about developing communication and team working skills and inspiring confidence in its members.

An ‘Arts and Events’ placement gives students a complete experience of the theatre to include the Press and Publicity, Backstage, Box Office and Front of House departments. For an 'Arts and Events' work placement please call the Hertfordshire Careers Service (HCS) on 01462 705000.  A ‘Backstage’ placement will give students the opportunity to gain a full week’s work experience exclusive to the stage and technical aspects of the theatre.  These placements can be booked direct through Steve Overton, Productions and Buildings Manager on 01438 242629.

Backstage Tours

The Education Department also offers schools and visiting groups the chance to see backstage for the small fee £2.00 per student. The arranging of tours is strictly subject to availability so groups are advised to book early to avoid disappointment!
